Dr. Buchen has been practicing Dermatology for 10 years after completing his Dermatology residency at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles in 1998. The practice encompasses adult and pediatric general dermatology as well as dermatologic surgery. Dr. Buchen is a board-certified dermatologist and is fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society for Mohs Surgery.

What distinguishes the practice is his aggressive and practical approach to patients. Clinically, he utilizes many newer medications like Remicade®, Enbrel®, Raptiva®, and Humira® that have allowed him to improve and enhance the quality of patients’ lives that suffer with chronic skin diseases like psoriasis. Isotretinoin is yet another example of a drug that Dr. Buchen uses frequently. It is a drug that can transform the lives of teenagers by sparing them from permanent scarring and disfigurement secondary to severe acne.

He is well-known for his work in skin cancer (Mohs) surgery and has recently published a book, Skin Flaps in Facial Surgery. Reviewers have called the book “outstanding.” Doody Review Services called the book an "excellent presentation on how one talented and creative surgeon approaches very challenging tasks."

He has lectured both nationally and internationally on the various ways to close facial defects created by the removal of skin cancer. Dr. Buchen uses these same techniques to repair torn ear lobes, suture facial lacerations, or to revise scars from previous trauma or skin cancer surgery.

Finally, in cosmetic dermatology, Dr. Buchen performs a myriad of procedures. Given the constant changes and flux in this field, Dr. Buchen’s approach is to embrace few but not all of these procedures. These include injectable filling agents like Restylane® and Juviderm® to plump and fill facial wrinkles lines, Botox® Cosmetic to soften facial lines, sclerotherapy using Sotradecol® to eradicate leg veins, and ultrasonic liposuction to remove excess fat deposits. The aim is always subtle improvement to yield a natural rather than artificial look.

Testimonials

Mrs. Louise Mello wrote “Dr. Buchen diagnosed my problem, biopsied and began treatment right away. From that moment on, Dr. Buchen set himself apart from other doctors. This disease is very painful and he showed himself to be very caring…He gave me his home telephone number and told me to call him anytime if I had a question or if I was in pain and, in fact, he called me on a Sunday (his day off) to ask how I was doing…Dr. Buchen is a young man with a wonderful future. He is patient, caring, sensitive and most of all, competent. He should be the example which all the other doctors follow…”

Mrs. Meyers wrote “I had a cancer on the tip of my nose removed by a Mohs surgeon 5 years ago. It came back. Then a plastic surgeon removed it. It came back again. Since my first meeting with you, I have been convinced that you are the one who will get me over this next hill in the road…I have utter confidence in you.”

Dr. Offsey’s wife wrote “Dr. Buchen, I want to thank you for making me a size 6! You were right-the procedure (liposuction of the abdomen) was nearly painless. I had heard all the horror stories about lipo on the news-infection, bleeding, even death. I couldn’t get over the fact that I was talking about my cooking plans for my weekend party to your nurses while you were busy with lipo. I now can wear a bikini again…”
